Manual handling accounts for the largest percentage of absence through work related injuries in the workforce in Ireland. In order to comply with the 2005 Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act and the Manual Handling Regulations 2007, employers must provide training in order to minimise the risk and prevent the likelihood of injuries to staff.
Course content
Content covered includes Legislation, Risk assessments, Make-up and components of the spine, nature of and reasons for back/ disc injuries, Biomechanics and Ergonomics and its importance in their work environment.
Upon completion trainees will be able to:-
• Risk Assess before attempting manual handling tasks
• Be aware of dangers of incorrect lifting and resultant implications
• Possess the ability to apply Manual Handling principles/ training to ensure safe movement of loads and prevent injuries
• Be aware of the importance of ergonomically setting up their work place correctly
All participants receive and carry out practical demonstrations on safe moving of loads using manual handling principles/ techniques. Trainees will be practically assessed on their capabilities of same and must complete a theory test on course content.
3 year Certificate issued to trainees on successful completion of course and assessments/ tests.Course can be delivered on-site or at client’s yard/ offices.
Instructor is a QQI qualified trainer, Certified Fetac Manual Handling Instructor
